Hit Me With Your Best Shot

As I see on
"Meet the Press" that we are
still talking about the veep, er, shooting his buddy in the face, I have to break ranks with my fellow democrats, including the beloved
Maureen Dowd here, who are all, as my 5 year-old friend Levi would say, "screaming bloody murmur". Now, those who know me know I'm certainly no fan of Dick Cheney, but it was an accident, people, and a personal one, at that, not a matter of national importance. Let's also not be hypocrites after asserting that the Monica Lewinsky affair was a moot point when it came to Clinton's presidential skills. Are we really going to stoop to that level of personal crucifixion? I mean, that's all they had on Clinton; we have a veritable
buffet of this administration's
blundering and scandal from which to choose.
This is what we're going to focus on? That's what bothers me most about this whole thing. While the media are nitpicking and debating the morality of waiting a day to report the story or who told what to whom, they are ignoring (and have ignored) the
multitude of offenses of actual national and international relevance that Cheney has committed, grave
political missteps in his job as our Vice President, as opposed to his fuck-up as a friend or hunter, which, frankly, I don't give a damn about since I don't plan to either a.) be his friend, or b.) hunt with him, and neither do you.
