The Madonna and the Whore, a fable.
( Where Freud and Aesop meet)

The whore was once boasting of how fast she was before the other women. "I have never yet been beaten," said she, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge anyone here to race with me."

The Madonna said quietly, "I accept your challenge."

"That is a good joke," said the whore. "I could dance around you all the way."

"Keep your boasting until you've beaten me," answered the Madonna. "Shall we race?"

So a course was fixed and a start was made. The whore darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show her contempt for the Madonna, lay down to have a nap (and a cigarette, no doubt). The Madonna plodded on and plodded on, and when the whore awoke from her nap, she saw the Madonna nearing the finish line, and she could not catch up. The Madonna won the race.

(Alternate title: The Jen and the Angelina, with a slightly different moral). With special thanks to Stephen Dedalus, Lady Chatterly, and "The Rules" for making this fable possible.
