I met a very normal looking man this weekend, who, in the course of our conversation, turned out to be a republican, and a Bush-supporting one at that. I had believed that these rare birds would at least be cowering in their tree stumps at this point. Mainly because of the inexuseably thoughtless comments made by this administration, such as this one, uttered by Dubya himself to Wolf Blitzer:

BLITZER: Let's move on and talk a little bit about Iraq. Because this is a huge, huge issue, as you know, for the American public, a lot of concern that perhaps they are on the verge of a civil war, if not already a civil war…

BUSH: Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that's the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people... I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there's a strong will for democracy.

There you have it in a nutshell, people. He's not phased by thousands of people dying, because to him, the ends justify the means. It's "just a comma". He'd love to sweep all that pesky death and destruction and lying and suffering and HUGE financial debt that our grandchildren will be paying off, all of it under the carpet as one big "comma". You know what has a lot of commas? 2,703 (which will probably be more by the time you read this) Americans who have died in Iraq, 19,945 Americans who have been wounded, 43,426 Iraqis (at least, up to 100,000) who have died. The $317, 489,850,000 we have spent so far on this war has a lot of commas. Too many commas to be cavalier and flippant in an interview when you are responsible for all those damned commas.

And like a comma, I hope in November that will give the dingalings who still support this joker, pause.
